The MJSA Council of Custom Jewelers comprises some of the leading custom jewelers nationwide. Together, they guide MJSA's initiatives to advance the craft of custom design and to ensure consumers have the information they need to choose a custom jeweler with confidence.
Lee Krombholz (Chair)
Lee is an award-winning custom designer and the third-generation owner of Cincinnati-based Krombholz Jewelers/Just Like You Designs. About half of his creations are engagement rings, including many with unique side-stone treatments. Lee’s expertise covers the entirety of the custom process, from working with customers to enhancing designs through specific bench techniques. In 2018, the MJSA Council of Custom Jewelers named him a Mentor Jeweler.
Nanz Aalund Art Jewelry
Nanz Aalund is an educator and award-winning jewelry artist. She has taught jewelry and metals classes at the University of Washington (under Mary Lee Hu) and at the Art Institute of Seatte; served as a designer and consultant for Nordstrom, Rudolf Erdel, Neiman Marcus, and Tiffany & Co.; and was associate editor for Art Jewelry magazine. She is also the author of the award-winning A Jeweler’s Guide to Apprenticeships: How to Create Effective Programs (MJSA Press).
Gary Dawson Designs
Gary is the owner of Gary Dawson Designs—an online custom operation that was named a "Best of the Best" by INSTORE magazine—as well as a CAD/CAM instructor for the jewelry trade. He has over 35 years’ experience in creating designs that capture the personalities of his customers. In 2018, Gary was named a Mentor Jeweler by the MJSA Council of Custom Jewelers in 2018.
For three decades, David has owned and operated Dorian Jewelers in Watertown, Massachusetts. A specialist in custom design, he is also skilled in all aspects of jewelry repair, stone setting, production, and CAD/CAM, as well as the repurposing of old or worn jewelry pieces. His background, he says, enables him to combine cutting-edge technology with Old World craftsmanship to create timeless designs.
Christopher Duquet Fine Jewelry Designs
Chris found his love of jewelry making early in life—at the age of 17, he was sneaking into his high school art studio to work extra hours. He worked for several master jewelers before moving to Chicago in 1993 to start Christopher Duquet Fine Jewelry. A full-service custom design shop and jewelry studio, the store also stocks more than 2,000 handcrafted fine jewelry pieces.
David is the principal of Holloway Designs: Concierge Jeweler. Although based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he takes pains to meet clients wherever they feel most comfortable — from their dining and living rooms to favorite cafés and coffee shops — to ensure he can best capture their interests and tastes. The winner of multiple awards for his designs, David was also the youngest president of the Arkansas Jewelers Association.
Krikawa Jewelry Designs
The recipient of multiple awards—including “Best of” awards from both regional guides and national jewelry magazines—Lisa is a principal of the family-owned Krikawa, a studio in Tucson, Arizona, specializing in custom jewelry design and manufacture. She is also recognized world wide as one of the leading mokume ring makers, with clients from Australia through the U.K. to Canada and all across the 50 United States
A Jour Jewelry
Bristol, Rhode Island
Klaus is an award-winning goldsmith, platinumsmith, and designer who operates A Jour Jewelry, a custom studio in Bristol, Rhode Island. His training includes an apprenticeship at the Jens Grisson Atelier in Geneva, Switzerland, from which he graduated with the best national exam results in a decade. His professional experience also includes creating special-edition Rolex watches and jewelry and overseeing jewelry design at the KRIA Company in Milan, Italy.
Fort Collins, Colorado
Tom Linenberger began his jewelry career working in his father’s jewelry store in 1982. In 1987, he completed the diamond grading and gem identification and grading courses at the Gemological Institute of America. He currently operates Goldworks, along with his wife Sandy. A winner of multiple national jewelry design awards, Tom is passionate about educating other jewelers on quality of workmanship and ethics to preserve, grow, and help define the future of custom jewelry.
D. Muscio Designs
Dawn Muscio is an award-winning, custom jewelry designer and metalsmith, located in North Atlanta’s Brookhaven neighborhood. A 25-plus-year veteran as a unique fine jewelry artisan, Dawn creates one-of-a-kind pieces in gold and platinum for clients across the country. Her designs are handcrafted from top-of-the-line materials, including responsibly sourced gemstones and metals and conflict-free diamonds, while subscribing to the highest standards of excellence in craftsmanship.
Pleasant Hill, Ca.
Greg is president and chief designer of JewelSmiths, a company with two Northern California design/service studios providing professional jewelry repair, restoration, and design services. Greg was a pioneer in the use of “virtual inventory,” working with customers to create computer-generated renderings that he and his team then turned into finished creations onsite. He specializes in custom redesign projects, turning heirloom pieces or treasured mementoes into revitalized jewelry.
Green Lake Jewelry Works
A bench jeweler and designer with nearly 30 years’ experience, Jim is the founder and president of Green Lake Jewelry Works, which has two Washington State locations (Seattle and Bellevue). Green Lake employs 65 artists and a full production shop (all jewelry is made on site), with new designs created daily for customers worldwide. Green Lake’s honors include being named “Coolest Store in America” by INSTORE magazine.

Joel is a third-generation jeweler taught by his grandfather and other old-time jewelers in Charleston, South Carolina. He now owns The Art of Jewelry By Joel McFadden, a custom –design studio in Red Bank, New Jersey, and is one of the most experienced diamond setters in the United States. He was named the first Mentor Jeweler by the MJSA Council of Custom Jewelers in 2017.
